And…. I’ve crashed today. My positive outlook is suffering a setback today. It’s still there, but my body and brain have decided not to release enough feel-good chemicals.

In life’s journey, there are moments when the addictive highs of positivity fade into the background, leaving us feeling subdued. During these times, we find ourselves crashing, our once-optimistic outlook taking an unexpected dip. However, it’s essential to recognize that these lows are a natural part of the human experience. I am at a place now where I can start acknowledging and embracing these downturns, understanding that they are temporary and will pass.

“Taking a step back and thinking logically for a second is good. It’s easy to get caught up in the positive feelings and believe they will last forever.”

When we ride the wave of positivity, it’s easy to convince ourselves that this addictive state will be a permanent fixture in our lives. However, reality often interjects with its inherent unpredictability. It’s important to take a step back during moments of triumph and acknowledge the transient nature of emotions. Understanding that highs are ephemeral helps us approach life with a balanced perspective, preparing us for the inevitable lows.

The reality for everyone is that you don’t feel great some days. But that’s OK; it’s expected to be up one day and down the next.

The reality for everyone is that you don’t feel great some days. But that’s OK; it’s expected to be up one day and down the next. Life is a quite naturally a rollercoaster of emotions, filled with twists, turns, and unexpected drops. Embracing this reality is a key aspect of maintaining mental and emotional well-being. On days when the world seems a bit grayer, it’s important to remember that it’s okay not to feel great. Acknowledging these emotions without judgment allows us to navigate the troughs of our emotional landscape with resilience and self-compassion.

I hope that after a day of self-care, I will feel better about things. It is the weekend, after all.

In the face of emotional lows, self-care becomes a powerful tool for regaining balance. Weekends, with their slower pace, provide an excellent opportunity for dedicated self-care. Whether it’s indulging in a favorite hobby, spending time in nature, or simply resting and recharging, these activities contribute to our overall well-being. By prioritizing self-care, we not only alleviate the immediate impact of a downturn but also set the stage for a more positive outlook in the days to come.

Life’s emotional landscape is as diverse as it is unpredictable. Embracing the highs and lows with equanimity allows us to navigate this intricate terrain with grace. By understanding that negative feelings are transient and incorporating self-care practices into our routine, we can emerge from the lows stronger, wiser, and better equipped to appreciate the next ascent on the rollercoaster of life.

Until our paths cross again, keep peeling away at the onion like layers of life and relishing the sweetness within.
